Herbal Medicine

An overview on TCM Herbology

Herbal medicine is a natural, holistic healing method that works to treat the body as a whole rather than focussing on specific illnesses by recognizing elements and harmonizing them. Herbs are often used alongside acupuncture treatments to obtain the best results as personalized medicine just as how you would usually receive medication from a Western Doctor. Medicinal herbs are usually sourced from plants, animals, and minerals.

The main goal of herbal medicine is regulating qi energy in the body. In nature, herbs can be categorized to be internally cold, cool, warm, hot, or neutral to treat and promote the functioning of certain organs. For example, if you have excessive internal heat, you may be prescribed herbs that have a cooling or cold nature to counteract your heat and vice versa to return you to an optimal state of health. Additionally, herbs are also categorized into different flavours that include bitter, sweet, pungent, sour, and salty. These properties act as therapeutic methods to associate and help with certain organs. Depending on the flavour property, internal conditions such as dampness, stagnation, stasis, coldness, wind, heat, and deficiencies can be dispelled through promoting energy and blood circulation to tonify, rebalance, and strengthen organs associated with illnesses.
